My Top 10 Favorite
Stephanie Moments

by Becky Lindhorst

(as presented at Stephanie's Memorial Service,
 February 25, 2001)

Steph & Becky - 1985

Last Monday was probably the worst day of my life.  But during that night I cried, and I cried some more.  And finally I decided I had to write some things down about some special moments I spent with Stephanie.  Foolishly, I shared them with Val the next day and she said, “Will you read these at Steph’s memorial service?”  And I said no.  And the next day I was up there and she said, “I really need you to do this for me.”  So you’re going to have them shared with you right now.    Here are my top 10 Stephanie moments:

10.              As the tallest ballerina in whatever production she was dancing
(And believe me, we were at all of them!)

9.                  When we joked about training her boyfriends
(Because I taught her how to do that!)

8.         When she held the leading roll in her high school play
(I don’t know how many of you saw it, but she was great!)

7.         When she recruited Mimi and Kiki as her babydolls
(Poor kitties, they had to dress up)

6.         Whenever she was a weasel – and there were millions of these occasions
(She was always conning her parents out of things and I was always so proud of her for doing that!)

5.         When she visited with me with Billy on my latest 21st birthday and reminded me that we were both the same age

4.         When she was snuggling on the couch with Billy at her parent’s birthday bash
(She was happy and I knew she was happy)

3.                  When she walked the beach and I caught her waving at the cars that honked
(This was when she was about 12 or 13.  We used to walk the beach a lot.  We were walking along and cars were beeping and I thought, “I’m back!”  But it wasn’t me, it was her.  And behind me and kind of secretly, she was waving and encouraging them!)

2.         When she walked out on the stage like she owned it at the Miss Flagler Beach pageant

1.                  When I taught her how to shimmy at age 5 and she reminded me of it at her 16th birthday party
(We were shimmying and she said, “Remember when you taught me this?”  And Val said, “Yes, thank you, Becky!”)

She was great and I have many other “Stephanie” moments to share, but these are my favorites through the years!
